Todd Erickson is a designer here at DNA Cycling and the founder of Pegacorn Racing group. Pegacorn is a tongue-in-cheek racing team that doesn’t take themselves too seriously—focusing more on the adventure rather than the results. Todd covers his inspirations and reasons for making this group and shares his latest 2023 Pegacorn kit exclusive here at DNA Cycling through our Custom Program.
“Pegacorn came about as a joke between my friend Mikey and myself. We’ve always enjoyed riding together and being a little ridiculous. So, when I came up with our initial design, we needed a name to call ourselves and after many names thrown back and forth, we settled on Pegacorn Racing.”
Todd grew up in an era of cycling where kits were more billboards than fashion statements. When cyclists would only wear hi-vis kits and wrap-around sunglasses. Not taking himself too seriously while still paying homage to his heroes, Todd set out to design a kit that encapsulated this energy while taking inspiration from his kids My Little Pony toys.
“To me one of our best jerseys is our Raceday Jersey. I love the longer sleeves that are laser cut at the bottom to prevent fraying and the lower collar. Gravel bibs have been a favorite of mine for the last few years. I love being able to carry lots of snacks, but also a pocket dedicated to carrying my trash.”
Prioritizing camaraderie, friendship, and rides over results, Todd found a group of cyclists that share the same ethos. You may have seen Pegacorn kits at your local cyclocross races or at your local gravel group rides. Even Carborocket caught on and used Pegacorn designs on their new Racing Van. Smiles over miles.
The goal of Pegacorn is to inspire everyone to get outside on two wheels. No matter what size, color, or gender you are, cycling is a fantastic way to enjoy your surroundings and build friendships along the way. By creating this group, Todd hopes to find more cyclists who choose to ride bikes for fun and represent this niche community.
“I have been emersed in the SLC cycling community for years and love meeting new people who travel by bike. It’s always gratifying to meet like-minded people who get my silly design aesthetic.”
